Has been Chairman of Hermes Equity Ownership Services, since 2009; he is a Chairman, Foundation for the Global Compact and was a member of the Board of Directors of the Global Reporting Initiative until December 2007. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Saudi Aramco and an ex-chairman of Royal Dutch Shell and a director of HSBC Holdings and of Accenture. He obtained a Ph.D. in on a thesis on the Devonian sediments of Spitsbergen, and became a Fellow of St. John's College, Cambridge)
