He received the Electrical Engineering degree and the Libera Docenza degree in electrical communications from the University of Padova, Italy, in 1960 and 1968, respectively. In 1975, he was appointed Full Professor at the University of Padova. Currently, he is Professor of optical communications and random processes at the University of Padova.
