In 1987 BR freight operations were further divided according to type of train operation and material carried; the Trainload Freight division [no publications on BL database] and its subsectors handled unit trains of coal, metal, aggregates and construction materials, Railfreight Distribution handled intermodal and non-unit train work, and channel tunnel freight.
